Day in the Dark

On Friday, December 20th, we will have our annual "Day in the Dark". This year, we have been learning about the seasons, and the reason for the winter solstice. Please help your child select dark clothing to wear. We also welcome a variety of light sources such as glow sticks, headlamps, flash lights, light wands, etc.

Helping Our Community

Union school collected over 500 items for the Montpelier Food Shelf. Our class collected 63 items. Wow! We walked to the food shelf at Trinity Church, and helpedunload the truck full of items. First graders worked together with fifth graders to help our community. Way to go!
Happy to help!!

Community Visits

Each month, the first grade team plans a visit to a location in our local community. In the month of December, we were invited to a story time at Bear Pond Books. All of the first graders made themselves at home in the children/'s section, and then had some time to explore the store. Owner Claire Benedict complimented the UES first graders for their "good manners' and "thoughtful questions".

Our November visit to the Montpelier Police Station was very informative. We learned about the many ways in which police officers help our comity. CorporalKnisely was kind enough to give us a tour of the police station, and also answered the many questions of first graders.
