Unit 4 of our Bridges math program encourages an in depth study, and travel to Antarctica. We will be measuring , weighing and comparing in this unit, and will develop a portfolio of games too.

Please help enrich this unit by sending in any books, puzzles or games that pertain to penguins. Thanks

Quiet Time and Read Aloud

We have been enjoying a bit of quiet time each day in class. Students are encouraged to use these 15 minutes to practice self-control. They may stay as busy as they like, with drawing, building, crafting, or even just listening. Each child is practicing being completely  independent( and quiet)at this time.!

At this time of day I have been reading alound from a chapter book called "Ragweed". This is the first title in a series commonly known as "The Poppy Books". These stories explore the animal live of Dimwood forest.

Ask your child where Ragweed is heading. ( to the city). What dangers may lurk there?(cats such as Silversides and Grayband). We are all wondering what will happen when Ragweed's train reaches the city.....

Please let me know if you would like to join our class for this trip. We will be leaving Union school at 11:30 and will return by 2:30.

Literacy Rocks!

Each day, we use the Daily 5 menu to select literacy activities.
On Mondays we "shop" for new " just right books" to keep in book baskets. These readers provide opportunities for independent reading practice all week long.
