Since incubation for chick eggs is 21 days, we were very surprised to hear peeping sounds late Friday afternoon. Upon closer inspection, we noticed one egg with a small crack beginning. Our first hatch took place some time that evening.
A perfectly healthy, strong chick was found on Saturday morning. You see, some of our fertilized eggs had apparently been naturally incubated by a mother hen at some point before they arrived in our incubator. We look forward to the arrival of more chicks around May 22, and will keep you posted.
